Fairy Rings

Seen on top of Cleeve Hill, Cheltenham. Fairy Rings are caused by a fungus growing underground.  This fungus sprouts mycelium, creating a mushroom circle above ground that gets bigger year on year. This naturally occurring phenomenon is deeply entwined with folk and fairy tales.

Regenerative ecosystem

Alney Island Nature Reserve, Gloucester. This area provides a large green space for the local community and wildlife. As part of a regenerative scheme cows have been allowed to roam onsite. These cows are used to manage the landscape and maintain biodiversity. This is achieved by grazing on invasive species, trampling biomass into thatch and returning unused nutrients back to the soil.

Winter Interest

In the UK our winter climate forces many of us to give up on gardening till the spring comes back round. However, during the colder months, I've found focusing on my house plants can be very rewarding.

See below a photograph and sketch of my Spathiphyllum wallisii with a beautiful winter flower. Other winter flower houseplants include Poinsettia and Orchids.

Gloucester Flood Defences

Gloucester sits on the River Severn, a tidal river with water levels affected by periods of heavy rainfall and the Severn Bore. The Severn Bore is a natural phenomenon occurring in early March, where waves are forceeed upstream causing changes in water levels up to 13m. Changing water levels can reach beyond the protection of the town's flood defences encouraging architects to build floodable first floors on riverside developments.

Forgottern Historic Features

This beautiful bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1829. Unfortunately, the construction of the A40 has made it redundant.
